Mohamed Morsi, l’ancien président égyptien, a été condamné mardi à vingt ans de prison. Il risquait la peine de mort.<\/p>\n

Mohamed Morsi échappe à la peine de mort. L'ancien président égyptien a été condamné mardi 21 avril à 20 ans de prison pour avoir été impliqué dans l'arrestation et des tortures sur des manifestants durant son mandat.<\/p>\n

Il a en revanche été acquitté du chef d'incitation au meurtre de deux manifestants et d'un journaliste lors d'une manifestation devant le palais présidentiel en 2012, pour lequel la plupart des observateurs s'attendaient à ce qu'il soit condamné à mort.<\/p>\n

Un verdict relativement clément car, outre la peine capitale, Morsi risquait la prison à vie "pour incitation au meurtre".<\/p>\n

Douze autres accusés, essentiellement des responsables de sa confrérie des Frères musulmans et de son gouvernement d'alors, ont également été condamnés à 20 ans de prison pour les mêmes chefs : avoir usé de la violence, fait arrêter et torturer des manifestants en marge d'une manifestation le 5 décembre 2012 devant un palais présidentiel du Caire. Deux autres ont écopé de 10 ans de prison.<\/p>\n

Répression<\/strong><\/p>\n

Symboliquement, sa condamnation représente tout de même un nouveau coup pour l'opposition islamiste, déjà la cible d'une répression sanglante qui a décimé ses rangs.<\/p>\n

Depuis l'éviction de Morsi, policiers et soldats ont tué plus de 1 400 manifestants islamistes et emprisonné pas moins de 15 000 autres. La confrérie des Frères musulmans a été classée "organisation terroriste". Des centaines d’islamistes ont également été condamnés à mort<\/a> dans des procès de masse expéditifs, qualifiés par l'ONU de "sans précédent dans l'Histoire récente" du monde.<\/p>\n

Le régime de Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, qui jouit d'une popularité indéniable au sein d'une population lassée par quatre années d'instabilité politique, est considéré par les organisations internationales de défense des droits de l'Homme comme bien plus répressif que celui d’Hosni Moubarak.<\/p>\n

Aujourd'hui, même les mouvements laïcs et de gauche -fers de lance de la révolte anti-Moubarak qui ont aussi soutenu l'éviction de Morsi- ne sont pas épargnés par la répression.<\/p>\n
